The salt is sodium chloride. It is an ionic bond.It dissolved well in the water because H20 is polar. the positive sodium ions are attracted to partially negative oxygen in the H20. While the sugar is sucrose, which made up of carbons and hydrogens. Where as the  carbons and hydrogens are about equally electronegative,it is a nonpolar covalent bond, which means the charge of an atoms within the molecule are negligible.
